UPCYCLED ADVERTISING REFRIGERATOR MAGNETS

NEED:
  • old advertising refrigerator magnets
  • gesso (I used Liquitex gesso but primer would probably work too)
  • brush to apply gesso
  • Sharpie Permanent Markers
  • stamps with permanent ink pad (I used StazOn)
  • varnish to protect the magnet during use(I used Krylon Conservation spray varnish

This is a great project to make magnets with your original artwork on them.

First, you will need to apply 2 coats of gesso (or primer) to the magnets.

Here, I used a handmade stamp that I would then go on to embellish for my original artwork.  I used a black StazOn inkpad as it is permanent and won't run when you apply varnish to protect the magnet.

Have fun making your own designs!

These two magnets have designs made with Sharpie permanent markers.  The colors with these markers won't run when varnish is applied.  I also used a white Sakura Gelly roll pen to add some interest.

They are holding up menus from my favorite chain restaurants that have gluten free food!  Hamburgers and pizza!
